Oppo launches Find X2 Pro and rubs against Samsung, Apple and Huawei

Initially scheduled at MWC in Barcelona, the Oppo conference was finally held in Paris. The Chinese Smartphone giant has unveiled Find X2 Pro, a very high-end model sold at 1,199 Euros. Find X2, it will not be available in France.

After the cancellation of the MWC in Barcelona, the tech giants had to revise their plans. Some opted for streamed keynotes, others, such as Huawei and Oppo, organized local events. No question for the newcomer to the French market to miss the boat.

An audience of French journalists was therefore expected in Paris this Friday, March 6, 2020 to discover its new products. In 2020, to make a name for you on the Smartphone market, two strategies emerged: to offer models with an unbeatable techno-price ratio (Xiaomi, Honor, Realme) or to bet on innovation.

With the Find X2 Pro, Oppo opts for the second option and does not do things by halves. Marketed at 1,199 euros, its new high-end Smartphone incorporates all the latest technologies. By adopting this strategy, the Chinese brand is attacking head on the infernal trio of Samsung, Apple and Huawei. A risky bet, but not an unrealistic one.

Oh a Galaxy S20 Ultra!

All ceramic or vegan leather clad, the Find X2 Pro looks like it can be mistaken for the latest flagships of Samsung. Its dimensions (165.2 x 74.4 x 8.8 mm) are almost identical to those of the Galaxy S20 Ultra, so a beautiful baby. The leather version even allows an extra thickness (9.5 mm), that is to say if the Smartphone is large and heavy (207 g for the ceramic version, 200 g with the leather coating).

Like the Korean juggernaut, the Find X2 Pro is characterized by rounded lines and a hallmarked Ultra Vision AMOLED screen (upper left corner) signed by… Samsung. It cannot be invented. With a diagonal of 6.7 inches, it displays content in QHD + (3168 x 1440 pixels) and a resolution of 513 pixels per inch. Like the Samsung Galaxy S20 range, its refresh rate reaches 120 Hz. The Motion Clear function improves the fluidity of videos.

The best photo phone on the market according to DxO Mark

Aesthetically, the Find X2 Pro differs from Korean models by the arrangement of its photo module. Placed vertically in the upper left corner, it combines three objectives:

A wide-angle: f / 1.7 lens; 48 MP 12-bit Sony IMX 689 sensor; full pixel multidirectional autofocus; optical stabilization

An ultra wide-angle: f / 2.2 lens; 48MP sensor

A x5 telephoto lens: f / 3 lens; 13 MP sensor

We therefore note the absence of a ToF sensor, which is more and more widespread on high-end models, but whose usefulness is starting to be questioned by photo specialists. Up front, Oppo opts for a 32 megapixel sensor. The whole thing is obviously sprinkled with artificial intelligence. Oppo specifies that the Find X2 Pro took first place in the ranking of DxO Mark.

Like its competitors, Chinese adds several functionalities. Ultra Night Mode 3.0 promises exceptional night shots, up to x10 zoom and expert mode for taking RAW shots. On the video side, Oppo highlights Ultra Steady 2.0, a function ensuring excellent stabilization. Live HDR improves the colorimetric and three microphones take care of the audio quality with in particular a reduction of ambient noise. Finally, Oppo provides a quick editing app.

A Concentrate of Technology

Under the hood, the Find X2 Pro contains the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chip engraved in 7 nm (octa-core up to 2.8 GHz) coupled with 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 512 GB of UFS 3.0 storage (not expandable). What ensure high performance? The only connection available is a USB-C, Oppo having chosen to sacrifice the 3.5 mm jack from the first Find X. Note the presence of two speakers broadcasting stereo sound and Dolby Atmos compatibility. Everything runs on Color OS 7.1 based on Android 10.

On the network side, we can count on WiFi connectivity 802.11 a / b / g / n / ac / ax, WiFi Display, Bluetooth 5.1 and 5G. Note a fairly high SAR: 0.883 W / kg at the head, 1.149 W / kg at the trunk and 2.465 W / kg at the limbs.

Oppo Charging Champion

Finally, Oppo equips the Find X2 Pro with two 2130 mAh batteries. Yes, you read correctly. We do not know at the moment the reasons for this choice. The manufacturer promises 38 hours of talk time, 66 hours of music listening or 12 hours of video. It introduces Super VOOC 2.0, its new (very) fast 65 W charging technology. According to the manufacturer, it can recharge the Find X2 Pro from 0 to 60% in 15 minutes and up to 100% in 38 minutes.

The Find X2 Pro will be available in black ceramic and orange vegan leather in early May at a price of 1199 euros. The Oppo Find X2, it will not be released in France.
