Passing through a toll plaza has been more accessible than ever before. Gone are the days when travellers had a fear of ‘toll plaza traffic jams’ as the technology of Fastag has taken over now. One sticker on your windshield has completely transformed the experience of how people travel nowadays, and it has ensured that long, never-ending queues at the toll plazas don’t ever come back.  With the onset of digitalisation and the increase in penetration of internet-enabled smartphones, you can get a fastag with a single tap, recharge it anytime and keep a tab throughout easily. So, if you have a question such as ‘how to check balance in fastag’ in your mind, I just answered your question.

What is Fastag?

Fastag is an RFID (Radio Frequency Identification Technology) that the Indian Government introduced in 2017 towards the year-end. It was developed to eradicate the inconvenience the workforce, and car drivers face while approaching the toll plazas while travelling.

How does it work?

Affixed to the windscreen of your vehicle, Fastag is linked to a prepaid account. The payments via Fastag are made through RFID as the vehicle drives through the gate of the toll.

What is the validity period of a Fastag?

One of the prime benefits of a Fastag is that it has unlimited validity. This means you can use your Fastag continuously without re-registering it.

Around one year ago, when I purchased my new car, the one for which I really worked hard, I got my Fastag along with it. As I’ve been using the Bajaj Finserv application for a very long time now to pay all my bills, I recharge my Fastag through it only.

Here is the guide on how to quickly check your Fastag balance and recharge in few easy steps –

  1. Download the ‘Bajaj Finserv: UPI, Pay, Loans’ from the Play Store (Android) or App Store (iOS).
  2. Open it and go to the Bills & Recharges section.
  3. Under the Recharge section, click on FASTag.
  4. Select your provider.
  5. Enter your Vehicle Registration Number or Wallet ID
  6. After entering the required details, you’ll see your current balance and maximum allowable payment.
  7. Just below it, you need to enter your desired recharge amount.
  8. Click on Proceed to Pay, and your Fastag will recharge within seconds.
  9. After you register here, you’ll be easily able to see your FASTag balance.

(Tip: Make sure you have adequate balance in your Fastag wallet at all times.)

What are the benefits of Fastag?

  • It saves fuel and time as it prevents the tedious process of slowing down while approaching the toll plaza and then moving and halting your way to the payment aisle.
  • Fastag offers an entirely hassle-free driving experience, as it takes care of your toll payment duties. Also, it means you don’t have to carry cash or change for payments on toll.
  • FASTag helps in keeping track of your toll expenses. This is because every time the account is used for transactions, you’ll receive an SMS and email alert from your provider.
  • It helps in reducing paperwork and is suitable for the environment.

However, as per the Indian Government, all four-wheelers must have a Fastag stuck to their windscreen. This is basically done to promote digital payments, reduce waiting time for travellers and provide a seamless passage experience across the national highway in the country.
